What To Do With All Those Amazon Boxes?
Creative Ways to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Your Delivery Packaging

If your home is suddenly overflowing with Amazon boxes, you’re not alone! Instead of letting them pile up, embrace the principles of the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle. This month, we’re exploring how to give those cardboard containers a second life while helping the environment.
Reduce: Smart Shopping to Minimize WasteStart by rethinking your purchasing habits. Combine orders when possible and choose Amazon’s “Frustration-Free Packaging” options to cut down on excess packaging. By reducing the number of boxes you receive, you’ll lessen your environmental impact from the start.

Reuse: Repurpose Boxes for New Uses
  • Organize and Declutter: Store seasonal decorations, old clothes, or craft supplies. Label each box and use them for neat storage in closets or garages.
  • Get Crafty: Let your imagination run wild! Build forts, castles, or robots with your kids, or create drawer dividers, photo frames, and wall art for your home.
  • Gardening Uses: Flatten boxes for mulch to control weeds, or cut them up for seedling trays and compost additions.
  • Donate or Share: Local charities, schools, or animal shelters often need sturdy boxes for storage. You can also offer them on community websites for others who are moving or organizing.

Recycle: Give Your Boxes a Second LifeWhen you can’t avoid a box coming to your home, and if you really don’t have another use for it, then it’s time to recycle. Make sure to break them down and remove the thick labels. Make sure to keep your cardboard clean and dry by putting it safely in your closed recycle bin for pick up. If you find you have too much to fit or you don’t have curbside recycling, you can bring your cardboard to Waste Management Transfer Station, Stafford’s Solid Waste, or Lewis Salvage.

Box it Up!Cardboard is so versatile that it’s not surprising that it is used so frequently used. Cardboard has so many great uses and is also highly recyclable. So it’s time to rethink your cardboard and keep it out of the landfill.
